Hello all! Our Saturday morning shout-outs highlight a post/article/book/other that I’ve come across lately that deserves exactly that: a ‘shout-out.’ The goal here is to hopefully introduce my readers to other authors or bloggers that have had an impact on me, my writing, and my life.
This week’s shout-out is: Mad Money Monster’s F.I.O.R. – Financial Independence Optional Retirement
Mad Money Monster (MMM) is a financial blogger that I’ve subscribed to and read for a few months now, and as I progress through her older posts, I’m continually impressed with the quality of both writing and content that MMM shares. This article, specifically, is the one post I wished I had written most last year – but if I can put my jealousy aside for a minute, head over to her page and check this one out.
If you are not aware yet, there is an ever growing ‘F.I.R.E. community’ in the blogosphere and world that advocates their Financial Independence Retire Early rhetoric. There is much to cover with the ‘how’ to their plan and I’ll get to a lot of that in time, but for now, we’ll say that they spend less than they earn and save like crazy to reach financial independence faster than your average Joes and Janes. Once there, their goal is to ‘R.E.’ – retire early. MMM flips this last part on its head in her above article, where she articulates that sure, financial independence is definitely where it’s at, but let’s hold the phone on this ‘retire early’ mandate. MMM sites her husband’s love of his dream job and the fact that she’s not quite sure if she’ll want to retire early from her career or not. Either way, this post is definitely worth the read. Check it out and let me know your thoughts in the comments section below!
