Can’t Exercise When you Have the Kids?? Think Again

Can't Exercise When you Have the Kids?? Think Again

I’m not a stay-at-home dad but I’ve had a few Saturdays with Monica away at a baby/bridal shower and the girls staying home with me. On her way out the door there’s a quick rundown of the schedule, a couple of last-minute ‘don’t forgets,’ and the statement question – “You’re good, right?” I have her full confidence, no doubt, but she’s known me for over a decade and in the back of her mind she understands that I’m cooking up a list of easy exercises for me and the little ones to knock out while mom’s away.   I’ve got this whole, “lost 65 pounds, higher energy level, on-my-shoulder-whispering angel thing,” reminding me that I never miss a Monday and that I’ll need to squeeze at least a 30-minute workout into this day.   How, then, can I have a tremendous – memory generating – Saturday with my daughters and […]

I was procrastinating and scrolling through my Facebook feed a while back, just killing some time when I saw a friend of mine post, “This is how I lost 220 pounds in about 18 months!” The post was headlined by before and after pictures, and I literally did a triple take. 220 pounds!! That’s crazy, amazing, awesome, and … it had me wondering: what weight loss tips could she share for someone at the start of their journey?   Here are some of her before/after pics:     During her journey, Kate went from a size 4XL to a Medium and from a pant size 28 down to an 8/10 (depending on the pants 😉)   So I reached out to my friend (Kate) to ask if she’d be willing to share a bit of how she made it happen. She was stoked to share her tips and […]

2019 – My Goals, Dreams, and Aspirations for “The Year of Change”

2019 - My Goals, Dreams, and Aspirations for "The Year of Change" #growth #goals #2019 #personaldevelopment #dreams

2018 was busy… We moved our fledgling dental office, MikedUp Blog kinda-sorta exploded (positively), I worked 3 jobs for a while, got too stressed out, then rebounded again, we took on a ton of debt (willingly), our business grew, and (most importantly) – we found out that my wife is pregnant (with #2)!! Whew… I’m tired just from typing out that sentence. While all of those things are amazing (except for the stress – but that ended up being positive in the end), I knew that 2019 would need to be different if I plan to keep up at this pace. So in this post, I will introduce you to my goals, dreams, and aspirations for 2019 – “The Year of Change” (YOC).   Why am I branding 2019 as the Year of Change?   Well, because of a few things. Some big announcements and some smaller ones – some […]

The business of fitness – with Mighty Mick

Mighty Micks is not only a gym in my hometown, but it is also a place to gather, improve together, and better our fitness levels as one group, one community, and… dare I say, one family. This is the story of my entrance into Mighty Micks and the man that brought it all together.     Yeah, honey… I had a good workout   I was in the living room, on the ground, staring up at the rotating blades of the ceiling fan. My heart was beating through my ribs and sending percussion waves to the glass of water on the table next to me (slight exaggeration). It was in the low 90s outside with what felt like 100% humidity. That, for some reason, seemed irrelevant during my earlier decision making process. Oh, and I was coming out of a 5 day’er (sickness) that came complete with fever, aches, pains, […]
