Why YOU Need to Start a Side Hustle – NOW

I Need a Hustle - Why You Need To Start a Side Hustle #SideHustle #earning #income #debt #passion #skills

Hi, Team! I’m excited to bring you the post below from Peter Koch – a serial entrepreneur and founder of SellerAtHeart.com blog. “He’s a hustla, baby…” And he’s chock full of wisdom about why YOU need to start a side hustle – like right now. Have you been thinking, “I need a hustle?” Well, Peter has your motivation. This guy’s a rock star and I’m thrilled that he’s agreed to write for us today. Take it away, Peter:

Allow me to take you back to your childhood

If you’re anything like me, you were probably involved in some side hustles from an early age, but you just weren’t aware of it.

For instance, I never mowed the lawns or delivered newspapers for pocket money, I had an entrepreneurial spirit and I used to sell candies in school to my classmates. The money I then received for my services was pretty miserable by today’s standards, but for me at the time, it seemed like I was at the top of the world.

Fast forward to today, and while I now have a University Degree, and work in my field of expertise, I never underestimated the opportunities given to me by my side hustle ventures. For those very reasons, I decided to start writing on the Selleratheart blog, and dabble in selling on Amazon as well. In case you’re still not convinced, here are some reasons why you should start your own side hustle gig!

In case you’re still not convinced, here are some reasons why you should start your own side hustle!

A side hustle is not for me, I already have a great job

I have no doubt that some of you put the work in already, and are now living the dream, doing the job you love, and getting paid handsomely for doing so. If that’s the case, congratulations!

Still, just because you seem financially set for now, don’t think that it’s all set in stone. Life is full of turmoil, but I guess that’s what makes it fun. In today’s economy, it’s not exactly a rare sight to find a person who lost their job. In most cases, after struggling for a while, people somehow manage to find new job opportunities, but what happens if they don’t?

Don’t get me wrong the point of this post is not to scare you needlessly. However, some individuals need to have their eyes opened, and if this is the way to do so, then so be it.

What happens if you suddenly lose your job?

Let me tell you a little story about my neighbor, a great lady named Ann.

Besides being a great friend, Ann is also a tireless worker, never afraid to get out of her comfort zone. Perhaps that was the very reason why Ann one day decided to start baking cakes.

Mind you, she was never known as a housewife either. Instead, Ann is an engineer, and as a woman in her fifties, she already had 30+ years of working experience and all with the same private company.

Unfortunately, one day, the owner of that company was forced to declare bankruptcy, and just like that, Ann suddenly found herself out of a job! With two young children just heading for college, she understood the gravity of the situation very quickly and immediately started looking for other job opportunities.

As it tends to happen to people over 50, no employer was willing to take a chance with her, as they were all looking for younger people, who would hopefully remain with the company for years to come.

Well, you may remember that I previously mentioned Ann’s new found love for baking?

People from her surroundings noticed that as well, and Ann gradually started baking cakes as a side hustle idea. Now that she was out of a job, she was able to invest more time in that line of work, and well, the word quickly spread around.

Nowadays, Ann is a full-time baker, with tons of customers itching to get their hands on her tasty delicacies.

Remember, following your passion is not always the answer. Sometimes, life throws us a curve ball, and when that happens, it’s always a good idea to have a trick up your sleeve.

If you ever find something you’re great at, explore it to the maximum of your abilities.

You’ll want to have as many income streams as possible

Do you have a rainy day fund? Most of us do, and we consider it an absolute necessity. However, this fund can heavily eat away at your monthly income, depending on how rational (or paranoid you are ☺).

Can you imagine how great would it be if you didn’t have to stash away parts of your salary like this? Well, you guessed it, if you have enough income streams, you can simply direct those funds towards the rainy day cause, and that’s that!

What’s more, if you play your cards right, that money can be directed towards any passion you might want to pursue. I know I always preach that it’s best to be careful with money, as one can never know for how long it’s gonna last, but I have to be honest here for a second, I also believe in occasional splurging.

Some people like to travel, others love riding vintage bikes, buying expensive watches, and so on. There’s millions of possibilities out there. If you can find a way to create many income streams, no matter how big or small, money will eventually add up over time. When that happens, you might as well treat yourself to something nice.

It will make you confident in your abilities

Believe it or not, confidence plays a huge role in everyone’s well-being. Nowadays, as the opportunities are getting sparser by the day, people are starting to accept demeaning jobs, as they are in desperate need of money. What gets lost in this situation is their confidence and self-belief.

Think about it for a second, if you don’t feel like you have anything to offer to the world, chances are you’ll end up sitting around all day long, hiding from the very individuals that locked you inside that cage.

However, when you apply yourself towards many different business ideas, and when you find success in some of them, your confidence and inner drive will quickly rise from the ashes. You won’t feel as dependent on those large corporations, as you’ll have your own thing going, or at the very least, you won’t feel trapped, as you’ll always have some options on the table.

Learn some new skills

We always tend to believe that some people were simply born talented, but “talent” is nothing more than a mirage. Behind every successful person, there’s tons of hours they have spent, working on their craft.

Learning a new skill can seem like a daunting task at first, but break things down into little sections, and work on those milestones. Before you know it, you will start to master anything you apply yourself towards, and all of this may come in handy later on in life.

In fact, before you even start, think hard about which skill you would like to possess, and how would you be able to monetize it. Make a list, and start working on your self-improvements one step at a time.

You’ll meet a lot of new faces

Take it from me, your side hustle will open up some doors which were previously slammed shut. As you might know, today I sell on Amazon, previously I owned a bar, and during those days, I met a whole bunch of people.

Some of them were complete scam artists, but others had something to offer. Not only that we became friends, but I actually became a business partner with others, and we remained in great terms ever since.

But I have no clue where to start!

Are you feeling inspired to conquer the world today, but you cannot think of a good place to start?
