Hello all!

Our Saturday morning shout-outs highlight a post/article/book/other that I’ve come across lately that deserves exactly that: a ‘shout-out.’ The goal here is to hopefully introduce my readers to other authors or bloggers that have had an impact on me, my writing, and my life.

This week’s shout-out is: Growing Up Abused – A Story Of Tragedy And Triumph (via Andrea of Saving Joyfully – posted on Money With a Purpose)

I’ve come to know Andrea via Twitter as a fellow personal finance blogger, and her demeanor is 100% happy and helpful to all she interacts with. She’s also from Ohio, which is how we started talking in the first place, and honestly – I could’ve gone forever thinking that she had come from a great home with a stable upbringing… All because of how she acts today. But that couldn’t be further from the truth.

This post details how Andrea overcame verbal, emotional, and sexual abuse to turn ZERO primary education into all that she’s become today (a wife, college graduate, medical billing specialist, and inspiration to so many of her readers). I literally read this post with jaw agape in utter disbelief, then inspiration and hope. My childhood was nothing like Andrea’s and without her opening up in this post, I’d really have little idea of what this experience could be like in addition to the fact that it’s possible to overcome such an incredibly difficult situation. Check this post out – it is 100% worth your time.

  1. Andrea ranks at the very top of people I am amazed to interact with and I too thought it was a bombshell when I read this post after interacting with her for some time before.

How she didn’t let her past effect the present and future is a testimony of how amazing a character she has and can serve as a blueprint for others in similar situations.

People and circumstances robbed her childhood but she refused to let them rob her of more.

    1. Xrayvsn – I couldn’t agree more. Although I’ve never met Andrea in person, every interaction I’ve had with her has been so positive and helpful (from her end). It’s incredible to see given where her story started.

      Well said, Sir. Well said.

  2. Thank you for sharing my story Mike and for your kind words. This story was extremely hard to share because it was so personal. Fred did an amazing job of sharing my story and being compassionate through the whole experience. I try so hard in my life to not look back with regret but look forward with hope and Joy. As horrible as my childhood was my whole life has been filled with amazing people and miracles along the way to help me. Not everyone believes in God but I do because of my experiences and his love for me and strength that I have felt many times.

    1. Andrea, you are 100% welcome! I couldn’t believe this story the first time I read it on Fred’s site and I can’t imagine how difficult it must’ve been to actually put these words into print for you.

The fact that you overcame that beginning to get where you are today is a testament to your will and determination. You are impressive, ma’am. And I can’t to see what more you are capable of.

      God bless,
      -Mike
