Hello all! Our Saturday morning shout-outs highlight a post/article/book/other that I’ve come across lately that deserves exactly that: a ‘shout-out.’ The goal here is to hopefully introduce my readers to other authors or bloggers that have had an impact on me, my writing, and my life.
This week’s shout-out is:
Oh… You’ve heard me talk about Jocko before? Did you know that Jocko wrote a kids book?
Follow-up question – did you know that I purchased said book for my 3-year-old as a birthday gift? Never mind the fact that the book is targeted at a slightly older “kid” audience, there are great messages in there!
To answer the above questions: Yes. Jocko has written this book for young adults that chronicles young Marc’s journey from the depths of 5th grade to the mountaintop that is achieving your goals. We pick up the story while Marc is getting ready for summer break and the year has been downright terrible. He’s picked on for not knowing his multiplication tables, getting beat by all the girls in school during the physical fitness test, and maybe worst of all – he can’t swim… And there’s a camp trip in his near future… Just bad.
If not for Marc’s Uncle Jake (a retired Navy SEAL) coming to stay with Marc and his mom for the summer, 6th grade was looking like a terrible proposition. Come along with the newly teamed up duo as Uncle Jake whips Marc into shape by stoking the ultimate fire of motivation. Marc is inspired by the example that Uncle Jake sets for him. This is an entertaining read that is tons of fun for parents and kids to read together. But don’t get complacent thinking that the messages are only geared for your little ones… They’ll have you doing pull-ups on semi-secured structures in no time!! (So I hear…)
Thanks for reading!
